1  Szkoła - działy tematyczne / Szkoła ogólnie / Lowry named Jets captain, replaces Wheeler : Grudzień 19, 2023, 10:35:33
Adam Lowry was named captain of the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. The 30 year old forward was selected by the Jets in the third round  No.  67  of the 2011 NHL Draft and has played his entire nine season NHL career with Winnipeg. "It's extremely special to get the opportunity to lead an NHL franchise, and a Canadian market for that matter," Lowry said.  "It's a huge honor to know that management, coaching staff and your teammates have the belief in you that you are the right guy and you're going to be the guy to steady the ship when things don't necessarily go our way, or when we hit some difficult patches throughout the season.  I am really looking forward to taking on that challenge. "Lowry replaces Blake Wheeler, who was removed as captain Sept.  16, 2022, and signed with the New York Rangers after having his contract bought out this offseason.  The Jets opted for three alternate captains last season; Lowry, forward Mark Scheifele and defenseman Josh Morrissey.  Coach Rick Bowness said Scheifele and Morrissey will remain alternate captains. "When we took the [captaincy] away from Blake, we wanted to open up the room," Bowness said.  "So, we achieved that.  Mark, 'Mo' and 'Low' did a great job last year taking over the room, and the communication within the room, which we were trying to achieve, it worked.  So there were a couple of really good candidates.  And sometimes there's no wrong answer.  So this is the right choice for us right now Gustav Olofsson Jersey.  And was it a difficult decision? Absolutely.  It wasn't one where we said at the end of the year, 'OK, Adam's our captain. ' That wasn't the case at all.  We had a lot of conversations over the summer with the staff, with management and everyone involved.  So, ultimately we came to this conclusion. " NHL Tonight on Adam Lowry being named a team captain  Morrissey, a teammate of Lowry's in the American Hockey League before playing the last eight seasons together in Winnipeg, said he was excited for Lowry to have the role. "He's a great leader, I've played with him my whole career," Morrissey said.  "I think the main theme with him is that he's a great person, he's a great guy, he comes to work every day.  He's such a professional.  He's an unselfish guy and commands a lot of respect.  He's certainly willing to stand up for his teammates and just everything he does you respect as a teammate, and I think as an opponent as well, and he's going to do a great job. "Bowness said Lowry's leadership ability is reminiscent of players he's coached previously. "I had Ray  Bourque  in Boston," Bowness said.  "Ray was very quiet.  Didn't say a whole lot.  But man when the game was on the line and the complexion of the game had to change, Ray went out and did that.  We had  Roberto  Luongo in Vancouver for a while, and we had [Henrik Sedin] take over there https://www.krakenproteamstore.com/mitch-reinke-jersey.  Adam's different than all those guys because Adam is more of a physical presence out there.  His role is different.  He's not the top line center.  But regardless of his minutes and role, he's dominant in what he brings to the table in terms of a competitor and sticking up for his teammates.  So, those other guys were all the best players on the team.  Adam, you wouldn't put him in that category.  But his importance to the team is at that level of your best players. "Lowry had an NHL career high 36 points  13 goals, 23 assists  in 82 regular season games and five points  four goals, one assist  in five Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.  He has 204 points  93 goals, 111 assists  in 621 regular season games, sixth in Jets Atlanta Thrashers history. "I've had the fortune of watching Adam play since we drafted him in 2011," general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said.  "He was our second pick in that year.  I've seen him grow and I've seen him play at many different levels, both in junior and at the American  Hockey  League level.  I saw the level of leadership and what he provided at both of those levels.  You could tell at that point in time that he had some special qualities. "He's a guy that's earned his right to be in the National Hockey League.  He'd be the first to tell you he's not the most skilled, he's not going to break the bank on the point side of it, but what he brings to a team, what he brings to a locker room, what he brings to a franchise, and what he brings to a city, those are all the things that you want.  He leads by example and he drags people along with him when he plays and how he plays Cale Fleury Jersey. "Lowry said he's learned from the captains he's played with in Winnipeg, Wheeler and Andrew Ladd, and believes the important thing is staying true to the player he's always been. "I think the big thing is, as clich as it sounds, is don't change who you are just because the letter on your jersey changes," he said.  "I think part of what makes me a successful hockey player is playing hard, is competing, is trying to drag my teammates into the fight and sticking up for them and standing up for them on the ice and in the room. I think just trying to find ways to impact the game, trying to find ways to kind of influence the game in a positive manner is the way I'm going to continue to try and play.  Stand up for my teammates and make them play a little bigger. 'Lowry also can rely on his father, Dave Lowry, who was captain of the Calgary Flames from 2000 02. "I think at that age I was just happy to be hanging around the rink, being in the locker room, going on the ice at practice and things like that," said Lowry, who was 7 when his father was named Flames captain.  "Now, being older, being able to talk to him, he's a great sounding board.  I know he's with a different organization  Seattle Kraken assistant coach , but he certainly has some great advice for me.  He'll be someone I'll certainly lean on and try to soak up as much of his wisdom as I can in dealing with the positives, the negatives that go along with the added responsibility and things like that.  It certainly helps to know that he's been through it in a Canadian market as well, just the ups and downs that go with it. "Eight NHL teams are without a captain: the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Seattle Kraken and St.  Louis Blues. The Vancouver Canucks named defenseman Quinn Hughes captain Monday. 2  Kategoria ogólna / Sport / Inside look at Philadelphia Flyers : Grudzień 19, 2023, 10:34:41
NHL is providing in depth roster, prospect and fantasy analysis for each of its 32 teams from Aug.  1.  Sept.  1.  Today, the Philadelphia Flyers. The Philadelphia Flyers will go into the next phase of their rebuilding effort hoping to see more of their younger players take larger roles. It's something that began last season as the Flyers faded from contention for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and continued with the offseason departures of forwards Kevin Hayes and James van Riemsdyk and defensemen Ivan Provorov and Tony DeAngelo. "We talked about making some openings for some of the young guys to play in and see what we have," general manager Daniel Briere said.  "I think we were able to create that and see really what we have for the future. "On defense that includes Cam York potentially taking the ice time left open when Provorov, who averaged 23:01 in ice time, the seventh straight season he led the Flyers, was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on June 6. York had 20 points  two goals, 18 assists  averaging 19:39 of ice time in 54 games.  The 22 year old was a minus 1 in even strength goal differential despite the Flyers as a team being a minus 18 after York was recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League on Dec.  8. "We really saw him grow in front of our eyes to me last year, both mentally and physically," Briere said.  "It was pretty impressive to see Tyson Foerster Jersey.  I'm not saying that his game is perfect, but he took a huge step, and he deserved the increase in responsibilities that he got through the year.  And he's going to get even more this upcoming season. "Last season saw an uptick in responsibility for Owen Tippett, 24, who scored 27 goals; Morgan Frost, 24, who led the Flyers with 41 even strength points  18 goals, 23 assists  in 81 games; and Noah Cates, 24, who emerged as the Flyers' top defensive center. The hope is forward Joel Farabee can have that same sort of impact now that he's healthy.  The 23 year old had 39 points  15 goals, 24 assists  in 82 games despite having artificial disk replacement surgery in his neck June 24, 2022, which prevented him from working out ahead of the 2022 23 season. With a full offseason of training for Farabee, Briere said the expectation is for more production https://www.flyersprostore.com/simon-gagne-jersey. "From what I've seen, the effort that he's put into the gym this year, how he looks, it's night and day," Briere said.  "I'm really excited about him. " Philadelphia Flyers 2023 24 Season Preview  Joining them up front could be Tyson Foerster 21, who had seven points  three goals, four assists  in his first eight NHL games and was on a five game point streak when he was returned to the AHL on March 26. "I think he's going to develop into an outstanding player," Flyers president of hockey operations Keith Jones said.  "His hockey sense is what impressed me the most in the short stint that he had last year with the big club.  He has a level of hockey intelligence that's very high.  Add that to his great shot and his willingness to do whatever it takes to play in the National Hockey League, I think we're going to really benefit from No.  1, the fact that he had a good healthy year last year, the majority of it in the American Hockey League.  And No.  2 that he's an extremely motivated hockey player. "Sean Couturier has a different sort of motivation.  The 30 year old has had back surgery twice since he last played Dec.  18, 2021. After nearly two seasons away, he wants to show that he can return to the level that saw him score 30 goals twice and win the Selke Trophy as the best defensive forward in the NHL in 2020. "I'm definitely going to be out there to prove something," he said.  "It's going to be close to two years that I haven't played in the NHL. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm up to it.  And I'm looking forward to  training  camp. "Having Couturier and forward Cam Atkinson, who had neck surgery Dec.  21 and missed last season, will give the Flyers two important veterans to surround their young core.  Defenseman Marc Staal and forward Garnet Hathaway were signed during the offseason for similar reasons. "Those guys are going to help our young guys develop and become better pros down the road for us," Briere said https://www.flyersprostore.com/cam-atkinson-jersey.  "That's really what I believe.  I'm really excited that those guys were willing to jump aboard and be part of almost a mentorship with some of our young guys.  And who knows what could happen? I think those guys are going to help our young guys become better pros quicker. "
3  Kategoria ogólna / Przedstaw się / Svechnikov only going to get better for Hurricanes following knee surger : Grudzień 19, 2023, 10:33:41
EDMONTON Andrei Svechnikov said his knee is improving, but he knows it's still going to take some time before the Carolina Hurricanes forward is back to feeling his normal self. Svechnikov is recovering from an injury sustained last season on March 11 during a 4 0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.  He had surgery March 16 to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. The forward practiced with the Hurricanes at Rogers Place on Tuesday in preparation for their game against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday  9:30 p. m.  ET; TVAS, SN, SN1, TNT, MAX  Jesper Fast Jersey. 'I know how I can play and I'm not there yet.  I know that,' Svechnikov said.  'But it's only going to get better over time.  I missed eight months and it's kind of hard to miss that, but you have to forget about that and start trying to play my game, for sure. Any injury [is] a tough situation, especially when it's an ACL.  What went through my mind at the time was that I cannot control this, and I just have to worry about what I can control, just have the surgery and rehab the best you can.  It's tough, and it's tough to miss the playoffs when you have a chance to win the Stanley Cup, but we are hoping to have a big year again this year. 'As a result of the injury, Svechnikov missed the final 18 games last season and all of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  He was second in scoring for Carolina prior to the injury with 55 points  23 goals, 32 assists  in 64 games. The Hurricanes reached the Eastern Conference Final before being swept by the Florida Panthers in four straight games.  Svechnikov then missed the first eight games of this season before returning Oct.  27 against the San Jose Sharks.  He has 11 points  one goal, 10 assists  in 15 games Justin Williams Jersey. Selected with the No.  2 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, Svechnikov is in his sixth season with Carolina.  His best offensive season was in 2021 22, when he had 69 points  30 goals, 39 assists  in 78 games and five points  four goals, one assist  in 14 playoff games. He has 275 points  113 goals, 162 assists  in 362 regular season games and 25 points  13 goals, 12 assists  in 40 playoff games. 'The doctor said when it happened it was going to take between six months and a year to feel back to normal and I still need those few months, [but] I think it's going to be fine after that,' Svechnikov said.  'There are some moments when you go into the [boards] and you worry about it a little bit, but it's always going to be like that in the near future and for the next couple of months before you feel 100 percent. 'The Hurricanes  14 9 1 , who are second in the Metropolitan Division, opened a six game road trip with a 2 1 loss at the Winnipeg Jets on Monday.  Svechnikov has seven points  one goal, six assists  in his past seven games. Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour is confident Svechnikov's production will increase as he continues to feel more like himself on the ice. 'He's a big part of what we're doing,' Brind'Amour said.  'I think his numbers aren't there yet, but he's a talented player and if we want to have any success, we need him to be what he can be.  I don't think he's quite there yet, but I think it's coming.  I think he looks good and if you talk to him, he feels good.  The numbers aren't there yet, but he's played well. 'The Hurricanes were 4 4 0 without Svechnikov to start this season but are 10 5 1 since his return.  He was unavailable for a 4 1 win at the Philadelphia Flyers on Nov.  28 because of an illness. Carolina captain Jordan Staal he's excited about what's to come with a healthy Svechnikov back in the fold. 'He's been improving; obviously being out that long and not in the mix, it's tough,' Staal said.  'For the injury itself, it's very challenging for him to back from.  He's a horse, so he needs to get his body going.  More and more he looks like himself, and he's really starting to show what he can do again.  It's been a good start for him so far https://www.hurricanesprostore.com/nick-shore-jersey. 'He comes every day ready to work and ready to have some fun and compete.  He's a competitor, and that's what we love about him the most he makes it a lot of fun stepping into the game, knowing he's on our side and helps us get ready to go. '

5  Szkoła - działy tematyczne / Szkoła ogólnie / Makar rested, ready to lead Avalanche to another Cup title : Grudzień 13, 2023, 10:08:29
Cale Makar is rested, healed and eager to begin what he believes can be a journey to another Stanley Cup championship, just like the one he and the Colorado Avalanche had 14 months ago. Makar, the Avalanche defenseman, is training this week at the 13th annual 2023 BioSteel NHL Camp in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with teammate Nathan MacKinnon, Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares, and Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard, the No.  1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. But Makar's focus is on getting to Denver for training camp next month, especially considering the Avalanche were eliminated in the Western Conference First Round last season. "I know a lot of the guys are itching to get back to camp," the 24 year old said Tuesday.  "I feel like last year that was maybe not the thing you wanted to get back to it, you wanted a little bit of time to make sure your body and mentally you could recover from the run we went on.  I think a lot of the guys are itching to get back now.  A lot of the guys will get in a couple weeks before camp so it should be awesome. " Makar attends Biosteel NHL Camp to kick off workouts  Makar said this offseason has been "a little bit of a grind" for him because he's been trying to overcome ailments he had at the end of last season that lingered longer than he expected. But he also feels he's no different than many of his Avalanche teammates in that they utilized the longer than expected offseason, unfortunately afforded to them because of losing to the Seattle Kraken in the first round, to get into the shape they need to be going into training camp. The Avalanche played their last game of last season April 30, losing 2 1 in Game 7 against Seattle. They played nearly two months longer in 2021 22, winning the Stanley Cup on June 26.  Makar was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as most valuable player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when he had 29 points  eight goals, 21 assists  in 20 games. He also won the Norris Trophy as the League's best defenseman that season, with 86 points  28 goals, 58 assists  in 77 games.  That's 97 games in 2021 22 https://www.krakenproteamstore.com/kole-lind-jersey. He played just 60 regular season games, missing time because of a concussion and then a lower body injury, and seven in the playoffs last season. "It's a win lose scenario, but one of the things for us as a team being unfortunately eliminated early is it gave us a little more rest time," Makar said https://www.krakenproteamstore.com/oliver-bjorkstrand-jersey.  "For a team that was so banged up this past year and had so many man games lost I think that was huge.  I think a lot of guys really took advantage.  It mentally can give us a little bit of a break and clear it; guys can reset a little bit.  Everything felt like it was in super speed mode last summer, so this summer you got to slow things down a little bit and regroup yourself. "Makar also said he's a fan of everything the Avalanche did to tinker with the roster. Colorado traded for forwards Ryan Johansen  Nashville Predators  and Ross Colton  Tampa Bay Lightning  and signed free agent forwards Miles Wood  six years  and Jonathan Drouin  one year. They lost forwards Evan Rodrigues  four year contract with the Florida Panthers , Alex Newhook  traded to the Montreal Canadiens , J. T.  Compher  five year contract with the Detroit Red Wings , Lars Eller  two year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins  and Denis Malgin  unrestricted free agent.  Defensemen Erik Johnson signed a one year contract with the Buffalo Sabres. "I feel like we put ourselves in the best possible spot to have a chance again," Makar said.  "The guys we picked up are hard working guys that are going to be reliable every single night.  I think our management did a great job of filling holes in our lineup that were definitely needed from the year prior, exposed. " The crew reveals Cale Makar as the top defensemen  He's hoping the next move by the Avalanche is to sign defenseman Devon Toews, who has one year remaining on his contract before he can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The 29 year old had 50 points  seven goals, 43 assists  in 80 regular season games and nine points  one goal, eight assists  in seven playoff games last season.  He had 57 points  13 goals, 44 assists  in 66 games in 2021 22 and 15 points  five goals, 10 assists  in 20 playoff games during the Cup run. "I feel like he's one of the best defensemen in the League," Makar said Carson Rehkopf Jersey.  "I don't know if he's underrated anymore.  I have no doubt they'll get something done.  You want something that works for both sides and he's a guy that definitely deserves it. "Even without Toews extended, the Avalanche have 14 players signed through at least 2024 25. That list includes Makar, MacKinnon, Wood, Colton, forwards Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen, and defensemen Samuel Girard and Josh Manson signed for at least three more seasons.  Even with captain Video: Makar attends Biosteel NHL Camp to kick off workouts set to be out for his second straight season following cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee May 10, the Avalanche championship window appears to be open for several seasons to come. "Hopefully that window keeps extending and extending and we keep bringing in guys that can help and fill out the team," Makar said.  "It's exciting to be on a team like that, to have the ability and to know you're going to have a shot at it every year.  We feel that we're capable of it. "

8  Kategoria ogólna / O wszystkim / Goal-scoring race between Matthews, Pastrnak debated by NHL : Grudzień 13, 2023, 10:05:44
Auston Matthews and David Pastrnak take center stage when the Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday  7:30 p. m.  ET; HULU, ESPN+, SNO, TVAS  in a nationally televised showdown. Matthews, a center, leads the Maple Leafs  5 3 1  in goals and has 10 points  seven goals, three assists  in nine games.  Pastrnak, a forward, tops the Bruins  8 0 1  with eight goals and 14 points. Toronto is looking to make up ground, already six points behind Boston, which leads the Atlantic Division and has yet to lose in regulation through its first nine games. There are other stars on the ice and the stakes are already high early in the season, but the main storyline could very well be Matthews vs.  Pastrnak.  Each is an elite goal scorer. Pastrnak won the battle last season, scoring 61 goals in 82 games, second in the NHL behind Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid  64.  Matthews had 40 in 74 games. Traditionally, though, the race between these two elite players is much closer. Since Matthews entered the League in 2016 17, after being selected No.  1 by the Maple Leafs in the 2016 NHL Draft, he has 306 goals in 490 regular season games, the most by any player in that stretch.  Pastrnak, selected No.  25 by the Bruins in the 2014 NHL Draft, has 284 goals in 504 regular season games, fifth best behind Matthews, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals  299 , McDavid and Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl  each has 289. So, which player Matthews or Pastrnak will score more goals this season? We asked six NHL. com writers for their opinion. Matthews: Pastrnak has the early lead with eight goals in nine games; Matthews has seven in nine.  And this is after Pastrnak had 61 goals, while Matthews had 40.  But I'm going with Matthews Boyd Gordon Jersey.  Since Matthews entered the NHL in 2016 17, he leads the NHL in goals per game  0. 62  among players who have played more than one game.  Ovechkin is next  0. 58 , followed by Pastrnak  0. 56.  Since 2020 21, the gap has grown.  Matthews leads the NHL in goals per game  0. 71  among players who have played more than one game.  McDavid is next  0. 64 , followed by Draisaitl  0. 63.  Pastrnak is next  0. 61.  If they play around the same number of games, Matthews should score more goals.  Nicholas J.  Cotsonika, columnist TOR WSH: Matthews increases Maple Leafs' lead with PPG  Pastrnak: The Bruins went into this season knowing they were set in goal with Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman.  They knew they were set on defense with Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm.  The biggest question for Boston is trying to replicate or even get anywhere close to what it did last season offensively.  Pastrnak knew that much of the onus and pressure would fall on him after the departures of centers David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron.  As I've watched Pastrnak through the years, since his debut at 18 in 2014, I've seen him take on more responsibility on and off the ice, watching him grow into his own James Hamblin Jersey.  I believe he knows this season could rise and fall on his production.  I think he takes that to heart.  Amalie Benjamin, staff writerMatthews: The Maple Leafs forward has an innate ability to find open space on the ice and utilize his amazing shot.  Often watching him, you are left wondering how he was so wide open in a prime scoring position, but that is a trait all great goal scorers have.  Over the course of an 82 game season, I believe Matthews will outscore Pastrnak simply because scoring goals is his main responsibility, and he does it better than anyone.  Matthews is the Maple Leafs' first choice in any goal scoring situation and is equally as dangerous on the rush as he is finding open pockets of space in the offensive zone.  Matthews' best season was in 2021 22 when he had 60 goals in 73 games and with seven in his first nine games this season, is on pace to surpass that total.  Derek Van Diest, staff writerPastrnak: I'm going with the Bruins forward on this one.  With Bergeron and Krejci lost to retirement, opportunities for others to score have opened.  Who better than Pastrnak to take advantage, especially because he was so prolific entering this season anyway? The 27 year old scored a career high 61 goals last season and I'm guessing he expects to get as close to that as he can, or top that, this season.  Pastrnak has been outstanding for the Bruins, and I think he tops Matthews in the goal department this season.  Tracey Myers, staff writer DET BOS: Pastrnak nets goal in his 600th career game  Matthews: Each player is highly skilled, and it wouldn't be surprising if either wins the Rocket Richard Trophy this season, but I'm going with Matthews because he's healthy.  Last season, he was coming off wrist surgery and dealing with a nagging hand injury and still scored 40 goals.  When Matthews was healthy two seasons ago, he led the NHL with 60 goals and was the League's first 60 goal scorer since Steven Stamkos with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2011 12.  Matthews demonstrated he was back to his 2021 22 form by scoring hat tricks in his first two games this season  only Ovechkin in 2017 18 had done that since 1917 18.  Matthews' ability to score goals in different ways and from different spots on the ice is what makes him so difficult to stop and gives him an advantage.  'From a pre scout standpoint, it's really difficult to say,  Hey, we're going to show you 20 different ways that Auston is going to be able to score.  Be ready for all of them,'' Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said last week.  'That's the challenge. ' Carbery knows because he saw it up close as an assistant with the Maple Leafs the past two seasons.  Tom Gulitti, staff writerPastrnak: Why Pastrnak over Matthews? Well, I mean, I could have easily gone the other way.  It's not as if we're talking Pastrnak over some dude here.  We're talking Pastrnak over an all time goal scorer.  But my reason is Pastrnak is also an all time goal scorer and he plays on the wing, so his job is to get open for the pass, to drive or dash or hold up to create room without the puck so his teammates can then get the puck to him.  Matthews, as a center, sometimes has to create both the room and the goal.  In a lot of situations, Pastrnak just has to get the puck and finish.  He also knows he has to shoot.  He's Boston's go to scorer.  Matthews has more proven elite forwards around him in John Tavares, William Nylander and Mitchell Marner.  It's Pastrnak and Brad Marchand in Boston, and Pastrnak is the pure goal scorer.  He scored 61 goals on 407 shots in 82 games last season, an average of 4. 96 shots per game and 15. 0 percent shooting Jason Demers Jersey.  Matthews might pass more than Pastrnak and thus won't shoot as much, even if the gap won't be wide.  As a result, Pastrnak will score more than Matthews, though it'll be close.
